Is replacing my Pinellas Park home's AC worth it?

The age, efficiency, frequency of repairs, energy costs, and long-term plans of the AC unit in your home all play a role in the decision to replace it. Replacement can save you money on energy bills and lower future repair costs if your air conditioner is old, inefficient, and in need of frequent repairs. Modern units are more energy-efficient and eco-friendly, providing better comfort. Additionally, if you plan to stay in your home for the foreseeable future, a new AC can enhance comfort and potential resale value. You can make an informed choice based on your unique situation by consulting HVAC experts.

How often does an AC need to be replaced in Florida?

A typical lifespan of an air conditioning unit can range from 10 to 15 years in Florida, where they are used frequently due to the state's warm and humid environment. The actual replacement frequency, however, can change depending on the unit's quality, usage patterns, maintenance needs, and regional climate conditions. A unit's lifespan can be increased with routine maintenance, but as the system ages, it may become less energy-efficient and more prone to failure. It can be helpful to consider replacement after 10–15 years or when the system's performance starts to significantly decline.

What does a new HVAC system cost in Pinellas Park, FL?

The size of your home, the type of system you're installing, the brand and model you select, the local labor rates, and any additional features or components can all have a big impact on the price of a new HVAC system. For smaller homes, replacing a simple HVAC system can cost between $3,000 and $7,000 on average. For larger homes or more complex systems, the cost may be between $7,000 and $15,000 or more. To get a more precise estimate for your unique needs and location, it's crucial to get quotes from reliable HVAC contractors.

Signs Your AC Needs Repair

It's pretty rare for an air conditioner to be completely fine and then shut down out of nowhere. If your system is making unusual noises, like screeching, banging, or knocking, it means that something is wrong and it needs attention from an HVAC tech. In addition, don't put off calling an HVAC company if you notice your system is not cooling your home as well as it should be. Inadequate cooling is a big indication that your unit is having to work really hard to do its job and needs service.

DIY Troubleshooting

There are a few things you can do to help your air conditioning system before it completely breaks down or before calling an HVAC tech:

Check Air Filters

We can't stress the importance of changing your air filter enough! If your filter is dirty, it will force your unit to work much harder than normal to circulate air through your home. Simply changing your filter may cause your AC repair to fix itself!

Thermostat Calibration

Is your thermostat set to the right temperature and calibrated correctly? If your thermostat is sending the wrong signals to your AC, it could be the reason why it's acting up.

Air Conditioning Installation in Pinellas Park

To maximize your energy savings, also consider a smart thermostat or zoning system to significantly enhance your energy efficiency.

AC Maintenance for Long-Term Performance

I ran the system for 20 minutes and it did not begin to ice up. I also verify the starting capacitor was within specs & it was reading 38/4mf. A clogged drain line with blockage (paper towels, see pics) was found. Evaporator coils have slight microbial growth development across the coils & the outdoor coils need a deep cleaning to remove blockage across the CU coils. 2 system membership renewal paid via check #1300 2 yr for 1 yr Notes: customer mentioned high humidity. Showed him thermostat settings to adjust humidity. Also filled in large hole behind thermostat. Membership is also due for renewal (2 systems). Summary: main split system: the drain line is impacted with buildup. I highly suggest drain solve treatment to help prevent clogged drain. Drain pan is also rusted. Since it slides out per Jonathan we can discount the pan. Mini split system: blower wheel and coil are dirty with debris and biological growth. Cleaning will improve efficiency and help prevent premature breakdown.

The technicians were courteous and did the installation in a timely manner. I am happy you guys were able to accomodate me in such a short period of time. My only complain was when I checked behind the filter after they were gone where the leaking with my old AC happened, it was not cleaned up. I clearly remember when the guy who came and gave me an estimation of the price of the entire unit explained to me what they were supposed to do in the installation and that’s to include cleaning and putting something where the water was dripping with the old unit. When I took out the filter, the basin which was put there by the other technician who came to checked the leakage over a week ago was still in there. I don’t think the installer bother to even check below. It was still so dirty and still damp.
